Drizzle them with the olive oil, smoked paprika, salt and pepper, then toss to combine.

Tip: If you like a little heat, you could also add a pinch of cayenne pepper as well.

raw brussels sprouts with spices on parchment lined baking sheet

Spread out the Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes.

Tip: Alternatively, you could fry your Brussels sprouts then toss them in the honey butter after they've been fried and drained.

Tips for Buying and Cooking the Best Brussels Sprouts

    • Color: When shopping for brussels sprouts, look for bright green leaves without any browning or yellowing.
    • Shape and size: The leaves should be tight and snug against one another. For a sweeter flavor, you should look for smaller brussels sprouts because the larger they are, the more bitter they can be.
    • Packaging: Avoid packages of brussels sprouts that have moisture. Brussels sprouts that cannot breathe will sweat and create moisture. The moisture can create mold and you don't want that.
    • Trim the stem: Before cooking brussels sprouts, trim the woody ends, leaving the sprout itself in place.
    • Dry them: After you wash them lay them out on paper towels until they are completely dry.

How Do You Make Brussels Sprouts Taste Better?

Even though raw brussels sprouts are bitter, when you roast them, they taste sweeter and are much milder. You also want to make sure you season them well to help balance out their flavor.

Why Won't My Brussels Sprouts Get Crispy?

When roasted brussels sprouts are not crisping up, it's most likely due to moisture from washing them getting trapped in the layers. The moisture turns to steam when they are cooking which can make them soggy.

Make sure you always allow time for them to dry really well on paper towels before cooking them. Another key to crispy brussels sprouts is to toss them generously in oil.

What Can I Use Instead of Honey?

This sugar free honey really gives this brussels sprouts a nice, sweet flavor. Another option is to use a sugar free maple syrup.

This is a five out of five stars definitely. The sprouts maintain their shape and flavor and the honey brings it up a notch. I'll be making these a lot.

These look amazing. Do you have an alternative to the keto honey? We can't get it in Canada, and the US Amazon no longer carries it?

Thank you! If you have a brand of sugar-free maple syrup in Canada, you can use it instead.
