Brussels sprouts recipes have really gained in popularity over the past 10 years or so. Where they used to a veggie you seldom heard about, you'll now often times see them listed as a side dish at steak houses and other restaurants.
Two of my most popular brussels sprouts recipes, that were inspired by steak house favorites, are these Shredded Brussels Sprouts and these Brussels Sprouts with Hot Bacon Dressing. Both are always crowd pleasers!
But I recently had a craving for them after a long day and didn't feel like heating up the whole oven or bringing out the food processor. So, I decided to try them cooked in my air fryer.
I was blown away with how mouth-watering and truly delicious they turned out. They'll definitely be my new go-to way of cooking them, and I bet when you try this recipe, it will be yours as well.
A drizzle of balsamic vinegar added right at the end really compliments the natural flavors of the brussels sprouts.

How to Make Brussels Sprouts in Air Fryer
Preheat air fryer at 375°F for 5 minutes.
Wash the Brussels sprouts and trim the ends off. Peel the outer leaves and slice them in half.
Add them to a bowl and drizzle with the olive oil, garlic salt and pepper.
Toss to combine, then place them on your air fryer rack, cut side up.
Cook for 10-12 minutes or until slightly charred. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the tops and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes or until cooked through.
Serve with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or the (optional) grated parmesan cheese.
With only 4.7g of net carbs in one cup of Brussels sprouts they are perfect for Keto or low carb diets.
Not only are they low carb, but they're loaded with Vitamin K and C, but also contain Vitamin A, folate and fiber. You can read all about the many health benefits of Brussels sprouts in this article on Healthline.
If you're air frying or roasting them, you cut Brussels sprouts in half. This allows the cut side to caramelize, which not only adds incredible flavor, but also helps them become tender and sweet.
If you have super small sprouts, leaving then whole will work okay as well. But for larger ones, you'll want to cut them in half.
The main reason your Brussels sprouts are not crisping up, is you didn't coat them with enough oil. Because they do contain a good bit of moisture, they'll steam when heat hits them. Without a proper amount of oil that helps them to become crispy and caramelized.
The best way to avoid ending up with bitter Brussels sprouts is not stay away from boiling them. Roasting them at a high heat with olive oil brings out the natural sweetness when they begin to brown and caramelize.
As long as you trim the outer leaves off and give them a really good rinse under cold water, you should not have to soak them. If you happen to notice they appear rather dirty, then yes, I certainly recommend giving them a soak to dislodge any remaining debris.
Tips for Buying and Cooking the Best Brussels Sprouts
- When shopping for Brussels sprouts, look for bright green leaves without any browning or yellowing.
- The leaves should be tight and snug against one another. For a sweeter flavor, look for smaller sprouts as the larger they get, the more they take on a cabbage flavor.
- Avoid packages of Brussels sprouts that have moisture. Brussels sprouts that can't breathe will sweat and create moisture. The moisture will create mold. Look for the ones sold in a mesh bag or loose in the produce department.
- Once you get them home, store them in the fridge in a plastic bag, unwashed, for to 3-5 days.
- Before cooking Brussels sprouts, trim the woody ends, leaving the sprout itself in place.
What is the Best Air Fryer?
I used my Power Air Fryer Oven (with the racks) to make mine, but you can use any air fryer you have. What I love about the Air Fryer Oven is that you never have to flip anything you bake, because the air circulates around everything perfectly!
It has 3 racks that will fit a good amount of food on them! But it also comes with skewers, fry basket (great for nuts) and a rotisserie rack that rotates!
I also use these silicone mitts for removing the racks while they're hot. They're nice and slim, so you can easily fit your hand in there to retrieve the racks. I absolutely love them!
If you have another type of air fryer, you can certainly use what you have. Just be sure to follow the instructions per the manufacturer and the cooking temp/time should be the same.
