💡 Tips for Making a Keto Smoothie

    • This is not a make ahead type of recipe. It's best when enjoyed immediately after serving. If you planned on enjoying just one serving, I've detailed the storage instructions for this below.
    • Use all cold ingredients, in fact if you don't have fresh strawberries, frozen will work just as well. If you do decide to use frozen, you can reduce the amount of ice.
    • Use a high powered blender for a smoother mixture.
    • If you want an even thicker smoothie, reduce the almond milk by ¼ cup and increase the ice slightly.

    ☑️ Storage Instructions

I don't recommend storing leftovers, as this smoothie is made with ice. The recipe has just 2 servings for this reason, but if you plan to only enjoy 1 serving, and wanted to save the second one, mix everything except for the ice. Then store the leftovers in the fridge and when you're ready to serve it, add the ice and blend.

    🔄 Substitutions and Additions

    • To make this smoothie a meal replacement shake, add in scoop of low carb protein powder. I recommend unflavored.
    • This recipe can be adapted into any Keto berry smoothie. Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries all lend unique flavors and are great choices for fruit on Keto.
    • Change up the extract to give it a different twist. Coconut extract goes really well with strawberries.
    • If you need a little more healthy fat for the day, you can always add a bit of coconut cream or full fat Greek yogurt.
    • For a milder flavor with less carbs, you can replace the cream cheese with mascarpone.
    • To amp up the vanilla flavor, you can use vanilla bean paste instead of extract.
    • You can also use unsweetened coconut milk, macadamia milk, or cashew milk instead of the almond milk, just be sure to adjust your macros any time you make variances in the recipe.

Which milk is better for Keto?

The 2 milks that have the lowest carbs are almond and coconut milk, unsweetened of course. Cashew and macadamia milk are also good options, though the carbs are a little higher.

Can you have protein powder on Keto?

Certain protein powders are perfectly fine on Keto. The issue is finding one that isn't loaded with sugar, artificial sweeteners, or preservatives that spike your blood sugar.

When you're looking for a protein powder brand, look for one, like Isopure, that's high quality, non GMO, with between 15 grams to 25 grams of protein per serving with no carbs.

Can you have strawberries on Keto?

Strawberries have a low glycemic index making them an acceptable option for Keto and low carb diets.

    How many carbs in strawberries?

One cup of strawberries contains 12 total carbs with 3 grams of fiber resulting in 9 grams of net carbs.

    Strawberries in white bowl

How many carbs are in a strawberry smoothie?

There are only 4 net carbs in this Keto strawberry smoothie.

Is almond milk good for Keto?

Absolutely, which is why I used an unsweetened almond milk in this recipe. It tastes great and has almost zero carbs. Unsweetened coconut milk also works great!

How do you thicken a low carb smoothie?

This recipes uses ice to thicken, but a low carb protein powder or xanthan gum will also help thicken them.

What fruit can you eat on Keto?

Essentially all berries are Keto friendly, including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and cranberries. The less obvious fruit that is also acceptable for Keto are lemons, limes, tomatoes, olives and coconut.

I have not tried this recipe yet but plan to tomorrow! I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2022 and had a mastectomy the end of April 2022. My surgeon put me on the Keto diet because she said sugar feeds cancer! That did it for me! I am on Keto for as long as I can cook! I am having a hard time with breakfasts and also things to grab and go sometimes. Which of your cookbooks do you suggest (which I will buy on Amazon) to be my first of your cookbooks. I also plan to make your cajun shrimp pasta with zucchini noodles.
Thank you! Many blessings and love of Our Lord to you! Ryckie Watkins

Would egg white protein or collagen peptide powder (not gelatin) give the sa,e result if using it instead of whey protein powder? I usually make this skip to avoid the isnulinogenic and glucose spike that whey can cause in some people (me included)...
Easy, quick, nourishing and widely customizable recipe: thank you 🙂

Any protein powder should work fine. Just check the label of what ever you use for appropriate uses. It should say something like, "used in beverages and smoothies."

Looks great. Can’t wait to try it! Can you substitute monkfruit as sweetener?

Thanks so much. A lot of people use monk fruit as a sub and it works just fine.
