☑️ Storage Instructions

Leftover custard can be stored in the fridge (covered tightly with plastic wrap) for up to 3–4 days. When ready to serve, you may want to give it a good stir to restore its creamy texture.

🍴 Ways to Serve Custard

  • Custard tart: Pour the custard into a pre-baked pie shell and let it set until firm in the fridge.

💡 Tips for Making the Best Vanilla Custard

  • High-quality ingredients: Since this recipe has few ingredients, using high-quality heavy cream, coconut milk, and vanilla can make a significant difference in the flavor.
  • Use gentle heat: When heating the cream and coconut milk, do it slowly over medium heat to avoid scorching.
  • Whisk frequently: When combining the hot cream with the egg mixture, whisk constantly and pour slowly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  • Check for doneness: To know if the custard is thick enough, run your finger through the custard on the back of a spoon. If it leaves a clear path, it’s done.
  • Avoid overcooking: Overcooking can cause the custard to curdle. As soon as it thickens and can coat the back of a spoon, remove it from heat.
  • Let it cool: Let the custard cool slightly before covering it with plastic wrap. This helps to avoid condensation, which can make the custard watery.
  • Store covered: Make sure the plastic wrap touches the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming as it cools.

What is the Difference Between Custard and Pudding?

Though the texture is similar, custard is usually thickened using egg yolks, while pudding uses flour or corn starch to thicken the texture.

Is Vanilla Custard Keto?

Absolutely! This recipe for Keto vanilla custard can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a lower-carb dessert option, regardless of whether they follow a keto diet or not.

Why Did My Custard Curdle?

Curdling can happen if the custard is cooked at too high a temperature or if the egg mixture is not tempered properly. To avoid curdling, heat the cream slowly and temper the eggs by gradually adding the hot cream to the eggs while whisking continuously.

Can I Make Keto Vanilla Custard Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can make keto vanilla custard ahead of time. In fact, it often tastes better after chilling in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight, allowing the flavors to meld.
