Remove the skin (if any) then, using a sharp knife cut about 1/4 inch deep and score the fat in a diamond-shaped pattern. You only want to score the fat, not the flesh.

Is Ham Keto Friendly?

If you are on Keto or a low carb diet, the holidays can be such a challenge when it comes to feeding a mixed crowd of dieters and non- dieters.

Even something as simple as baked Easter ham may bring into question, “Is ham low in carbs” or “How many carbs are in cooked ham?”

The good news is uncured ham in its natural state is perfectly fine on a Keto because it is basically a carb free protein. If you can’t find uncured, you can use one cured in sugar, because most of the sugar is cooked out of it. Just be sure to read the label for any other unwanted additives.

The real problem with the carbs in ham comes in when it is prepared using brown sugar, maple syrup or other sugary glazes. But with this recipe, a sugar-free honey and brown sugar substitute sweetens up the glaze while the sugar free jam gives the glaze that classic sticky texture! And it is all Keto-approved!

How Long Does it Take to Bake an Already Cooked Ham

The key to cooking a pre-baked ham is to cook it just long enough for it to reach 135°F on meat thermometer when it’s inserted near the center of the ham. This can take anywhere between 10-15 minutes per lbs., depending on how your oven bakes.

Then remove the ham and increase the oven temp to 400°F before adding the glaze. You’ll want to cook the ham until the glaze is burnished and glistening.

How Much Ham Do I Need Per Person?

If an Easter or Christmas ham is going to be the main course for your celebration, you will need to plan on about 1/3 to 1/2 lb. of bone-in ham per person. If you’re serving a boneless ham, you will need to plan on 1/4 to 1/3 lb. per person.

I know most people make Spiral Hams on holidays & that was the plan, but it didn’t quite work out that way. So, today 6/23/2025, although not a holiday, I made the Spiral Ham I’ve had in my freezer for a year and used your recipe. First time cooking one of these, I’ve always been a bit intimidated by large cuts of meat, I just know I’m going mess it up & there’s a large chunk of money down the drain, or we’re eating shoe leather for a week. Fortunately following your instructions made everything turn out fantastic, especially the basting sauce, which was so delicious spooned over our Ham slices & a little on the green beans too. So good! Thank you very much!

    1. I’m so glad you gave it a try and even more thrilled that it turned out so well! Spiral hams can definitely feel intimidating at first, but you nailed it. It makes me so happy to hear the instructions helped ease the stress, and I love that you used the basting sauce on the green beans too. Thank you for sharing your experience and for trusting the recipe, even on a regular ole Monday. Sounds like you made the day feel a little more special.
