🔪 How to Make Keto Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
Add the strawberries, yogurt and lemon juice to the bowl of a food processor, Vitamix or Ninja blender.
Blend until the strawberries are broken down and are completely smooth.
Add in the allulose.
Tip: Using allulose is key in this recipe, it’s what prevents the frozen yogurt from freezing super hard. If you don’t have allulose, you can use monk fruit or erythritol, but only ½ cup, since they are both sweeter than allulose. Just know that your frozen yogurt will freeze harder, than if you used allulose. Be sure to take it out of the freezer about 20 minutes before serving, so it will become more scoop-able.
Continue mixing until well combined.
Pour the mixture into a freezer safe container (I use this ice cream container) and place in the freezer for at least 4-6 hours or overnight before serving. Take out a few minutes before serving to soften up slightly.
Tip: This recipe is a no-churn, so you don’t need an ice cream maker. If you have one and prefer to use it, you certainly can. Just pour the blended mixture in your frozen insert and churn for about 25-30 minutes or until it reaches your desired consistency.
What is the Best Way to Store Frozen Yogurt?
You can keep it frozen in the same container you made it in as long as it has an airtight lid. For extra protection against freezer burn, you can place a sheet of parchment paper directly on top of the yogurt.
Homemade frozen yogurt is best when eaten within a day or two of being made or it can start to harden up. If that happens, just set it out for a few minutes then give it a good stir until it's the consistency you prefer.
Is Frozen Yogurt Okay for Keto?
Not all store-bought brands are Keto, but this recipe is a great sweet treat that's Keto-friendly. The key ingredient in this frozen yogurt is Greek yogurt, though not all brands are considered Keto friendly. When looking at labels, make sure you select a brand with no added sugar. If you can find organic, that is even better.
How Do You Freeze Yogurt Without It Getting Icy?
Using allulose helps to keep the yogurt from becoming icy. To get a nice smooth and creamy frozen yogurt, you must add the allulose before freezing it. The sugar substitute helps slow down the formation of ice crystals, allowing the yogurt to remain soft.
Is Homemade Frozen Yogurt Healthier than Store-bought?
Yes, it is. The number one reason you want to avoid store-bought frozen yogurt is the ingredients.
Some of the top brands of frozen yogurt contain ingredients such as added sugars, nonfat yogurt powder, fructose, dextrose, citric acid, guar gum, maltodextrin, mono- and diglycerides, and rice starch. No thank you!
Is Frozen Yogurt Lower in Carbs than Ice Cream?
In terms of traditional frozen yogurt and ice cream, this article on Healthline has this to say: " Frozen yogurt and ice cream both contain dairy and sugar. While frozen yogurt uses cultured milk, ice cream uses cream. Frozen yogurt tends to be lower in fat, but it may contain more sugar."
The great news is that you can make your own homemade Keto ice cream and yogurt by using a few low carb substitutions and have two healthy options.
Can I Just Freeze Yogurt to Make Frozen Yogurt?
You can freeze yogurt and it will be frozen yogurt. But for it to have the taste and texture of ice cream, you'll need to add the allulose to sweeten it up and to help make it creamy.
