How do You Make Alfredo Sauce from Scratch?
Add the butter to a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the garlic for about 20 seconds.
Be careful not to brown it or it will become very bitter!
Stir in the mascarpone cheese and once it melts, add in the heavy cream and salt.
Then add in the parmesan cheese and simmer on low for about 5-7 minutes or until thickened to your liking.
Serve over zucchini noodles, chicken, fish, shrimp or whatever you like!
Store leftovers in the fridge for several days. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Reheat in a saucepan or microwave and whisk! You'll still have that same smooth and creamy texture!
If you use a saucepan, rather than a large skillet, the sauce will take a little longer to thicken.
Can I Freeze Keto Alfredo Sauce?
If you do it correctly, low carb Alfredo sauce can be frozen. The key to freezing any sauce is to freeze it in air tight container. You can even freeze it in a freezer safe bag, making sure you remove all the air from the bag before you put it in the freezer.
You'll want to thaw the sauce over night in the fridge then reheat it slowly over medium heat, whisking frequently to reincorporate all the ingredients.
Can I Make Alfredo with Cream Cheese?
Alfredo sauce with cream cheese has a tangier flavor and is considerably thicker. But a lot of people prefer a cream cheese Alfredo. Be sure the cream cheese is completely as room temp before adding the other ingredients to it. Cook until melted, thinning with heavy cream as needed.
What are the Carbs in Keto Alfredo Sauce
There are only 1 net carb in Alfredo sauce. On top of being super low carb, it's mostly made up of healthy fats. That's a double Keto win.
Is Alfredo Sauce Keto?
It sure is. And honestly, it's a traditional recipe that requires little to no alterations to make it low carb.
You can also use this sauce in Zucchini Lasagna with Italian Sausage!
