There's nothing like a hot cup of coffee to help get your day started. While there are some coffee lovers out there that prefer simple, black coffee, there are many others, like me, who can’t live without adding a touch of creamer.

🔪 How to Make Your Own Keto Coffee Creamer
Heat a saucepan to medium low and add in 2 cups of the heavy cream, butter and sweetener.
Then whisk to combine.
Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring often.
Tip: The mixture will thicken up a lot and become a darker color. This is actually how I make my Sugar-Free Sweetened Condensed Milk recipe.
Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool before moving onto the next step.
Once the mixture has cooled, whisk in the vanilla extract.
Tip: You can also add a number of other flavors of extracts if you'd like, see ideas listed down below.
Then whisk in the almond milk and remaining ½ cup of heavy cream.
Tip: If you can't find vanilla almond milk, you can use plain and just add twice the amount of vanilla extract.
Pour the mixture into an airtight container or large mason jar and store it in the fridge for up to 10 days.
Flavored Coffee Creamer Variations
You can use this recipe as a starting point to make all sorts of delicious variations. Here are some ideas to give you inspiration:
- Mocha: Whisk in about 2-3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to the creamer mixture while it's warming.
- Hazelnut: You can give your homemade creamer loads of hazelnut flavor two ways. One is to use a brown sugar substitute instead, with a few drops of hazelnut extract. The other way is to whisk in some of these Sugar-Free Nutella to the mixture while it's warming on the stove.
- French Vanilla: Really intensify the vanilla flavor with fresh vanilla beans or vanilla bean paste.
- Salted Caramel: Add just a few tablespoons of homemade Keto Salted Caramel Sauce to the warm creamer mixture. It adds a rich caramel flavor to your coffee.
What is the Key Ingredient in Coffee Creamer?
It should come as no big surprise that the key to a really rich and delicious coffee creamer is heavy cream. It works, along with the butter, to give the creamer that velvety texture and body that doesn't dilute your coffee as much as if you just used almond milk.
What Other Ways Can I Use this Sugar Free Creamer?
You may want to make an extra batch when you see how many delicious ways you can use it:
- Add it over mixed berries for a simple and refreshing treat.
- Drizzle some of over these light and airy Keto Mini Pavlovas with fresh berries as a sweet sauce.
- Use it in your tea. Most people in the US are not used to drinking cream in their tea, but it's a real treat you should try.
- Use it in frosting for cakes instead of regular heavy creamy.
- Add it to your smoothie recipe.
- You could use it to create a really decadent French toast casserole or a sweet bread pudding recipe with these Homemade Keto Bread.
Is it Cheaper to Make Your Own Coffee Creamer?
With the rising cost of groceries these days, it's always smart to look for ways to cut back on the grocery expense. Store bought coffee creamers cost anywhere from $3.50 to over $5.00 a bottle.
Making it homemade uses ingredients that you most likely already have on hand for other recipes. If you divide out the ingredients you use, you could save over $10.00 a month, depending on how much you use.
What Can I Put in My Coffee on Keto?
- Honey Substitute: Just like with tea, you can use a honey substitute to add a touch of sweetness to your coffee.
- Pumpkin: Adding a couple of teaspoons of pumpkin puree is a great sugar free way to add flavor to black coffee.
- MCT/Coconut oil: MCT or coconut oil are not only healthy, but they can also help fill you up for several hours.
- Cacao Butter: If you want to give your coffee a delicious hint of chocolaty flavor, blend it with some cacao butter.
- Spices: One of the best ways to add flavor to coffee with no sugar, is to add some earthy spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, or a homemade blend like this Pumpkin Pie Spice or this Apple Pie Spice.
- Collagen Powder: Flavored collagen powders not only taste great in coffee, but they are really good for you too.
