You can either serve this tasty, low carb slaw immediately or refrigerate it until chilled. The longer it sits in the refrigerator, the more the cabbage absorbs the flavors of the dressing.

☑️ Storage Instructions

The great thing about this Keto coleslaw is you can store leftovers in the fridge for up to five days in an airtight container.

💡 Tips for Making Keto Coleslaw

  • Make your life easier and use a prepackaged coleslaw mix. There is really no need to shred your own cabbage or carrots for this recipe.
  • Allow the coleslaw to sit for at least 30 minutes so the cabbage has time to absorb all the wonderful flavors of the dressing.
  • While you might be tempted to just toss in all the dressing ingredients over the slaw mix, it really is worth taking the extra time to whisk them together separately. This ensures all the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the coleslaw.

🍴 What to Serve with Coleslaw

This Keto coleslaw is the perfect side to so many proteins, but personally, I love to serve it with anything grilled. Here are some of my favorites:

🔄 Substitutions and Additions

  • While this is a fairly traditional coleslaw that is made with store-bought slaw mix, you can actually mix up your own if you’d like. I recommend doing this if you happen to have cabbage on hand already or if you want to increase the ratio of carrots or red cabbage to the green cabbage. A food processor would certainly make it easier.
  • Another option is to use a broccoli slaw mix, which is also easily found at most grocery stores in the same area as the coleslaw mix.
  • You can really get creative by adding in some julienned veggies like bell peppers, red onions or even Napa cabbage.
  • For a slight onion flavor, you can add chopped chives or scallions. Don’t add too many or it can quickly overpower the slaw.

Is Cole Slaw Keto Friendly?

This question is asked a lot. The answer is, most definitely! Quite frankly, coleslaw is the perfect Keto side dish. Since the Keto coleslaw dressing is mayo based, it’s super creamy, adding healthy fat to your Keto diet.

Because cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable, that makes it low in carbs but loaded with nutrients. Serve with your favorite protein like chicken or pork for a complete meal.

Can I eat KFC Coleslaw on Keto?

According to their website, KFC’s coleslaw has 14 total carbs per serving and 10g of sugar. That’s not completely ideal if you’re on a Keto diet. This KFC copycat version comes in at just 5 total carbs (2 net carbs) and only 3g sugar per serving, which is more suitable!

How Many Carbs in Coleslaw?

The main ingredient in this low carb coleslaw recipe is cabbage which is a very low carb vegetable. One serving of this recipe only has 2 net carbs.

Can I eat cabbage on keto?

Without question, you certainly can! Cabbage is not only low in carbs, but is also healthy and very filling, making it perfect for a Keto diet. I actually cook with cabbage a lot and have quite a few Keto friendly cabbage recipes like Fried Cabbage with Sausage, Cabbage Roll Soup, Slow Cooker Cabbage, Roasted Cabbage Steaks and Cabbage Roll Casserole

Healthy Benefits of Cabbage

Not only is coleslaw a good choice for a low carb side dish, the main ingredient, cabbage, has many healthy benefits. It’s a great source for vitamins B6 and C, folate, fiber and antioxidants.

Studies show these nutrients help reduce inflammation, heart disease, arthritis and other chronic illnesses. You can read more about the nutritional benefits of cabbage in this article.

This recipe is absolutely delicious, and low-carb to boot! We made it once, then made it again a few days later, quadrupling the recipe. The second time, we thinly sliced our own cabbage and shredded a bunch of carrots. Crispy, SUPER easy, and delicious!!

I made this for a 4th of July picnic today and it was a huge hit! I used stevia in the raw in place of swerve and omitted the celery salt due to an allergy. My 11-year-old said it was AWESOME. It’s definitely a recipe I’ll make again.

Coleslaw has always been my favorite side for BBQ, but this renewed my love of coleslaw! I absolutely love the addition of sour cream.

I tried this easy coleslaw recipe, and it turned out so delicious! I love how easy it is to make, and even my family loved it too!

    1. It’s always a plus when the whole family approves! I’m glad you found it easy to make, that’s a win win!

  8. I hate coleslaw, personally – my husband loves it! He’s been asking for a keto version of coleslaw to go with our pulled pork. I just made this and I actually like it.

    1. I always encourage everyone to enter their own ingredients into their own nutritional tracker so that you can see for yourself where the values come from. The natural sugar in this recipe comes from that found in the lemon juice and the coleslaw mix.

  9. This is delicious! I’m making pulled pork in the crockpot so I will have a full meal ready and waiting after church! Thank you for this recipe!

My husband is extremely picky about his coleslaw. Other than KFC, he usually doesn’t like any others until I made this one. Now I get a request every 1-2 weeks for coleslaw and I am lucky to get a small serving of it for myself.

Great recipe, easy to make, definitely a keeper!

    1. Thank you so much! I am a picky slaw eater as well, so I can relate to him. I am so glad he enjoyed it.

    1. Thanks so much! I am so happy you enjoyed it. I make this recipe all the time because it goes well with just about any dish you serve with it.

Excellent recipe. Used it on broccoli slaw, as that is what I had on hand…it was gone in an instant. Can’t wait to try it on the cabbage slaw mix.

Can you tell me what one serving equates to? I see the recipe makes 6 servings, but, it was eaten so quickly that I didn’t have time to measure the entire batch out.

Thank you for such a great dish. It will utilized quite a bit…especially in the summer with BBQ.

      1. I am so happy you enjoyed it. When I make this recipe, I honestly just enter all the ingredients in a nutritional tracker and divided the recipe by six, and portion it out accordingly. I don’t have the exact measurements of the serving…other than 1/6th of the recipe.

      1. We added two tablespoons of Swerve confectioners, as we both like the sweet and tangy coleslaw that was my mother-in-laws famous slaw!

      1. You would need to enter than into your an app that calculates it for you based on the brands you use.

Very good, I added in some broccoli slaw with the cabbage slaw. And some diced jalapenos for a little heat. Yum!

This recipe is such a blessing. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to post it. It works great with pulled pork, a bit of paprika, or served my favorite way with a splash of hot sauce.

  13. Hi! Excited to make this tomorrow! I only have a stevia/monk fruit blend sweetener on hand. Could I sub that instead? Any idea on the quantity? I’m new to the keto world 🥴

    1. I am not sure the brand you are using, but there should be a conversion chart on the bag or on the company’s website. If not, just start out with a little less than the recipe calls for and taste as you go. You can always add more if you’d like.

  14. 5 stars
This is my ALL time favorite coleslaw recipe. It’s always requested when we have family BBQs. Definitely a 5 star recipe.

I have made this side countless times. I never get tired of it, and it’s superior to all of the other coleslaw recipes I’ve tried. Your website is my favorite for Keto recipes. Thank you!!

    1. Thank you very much. That’s so nice. I love the simple flavors in this recipe too.

  16. The produce department in grocery stores in the US have bags of thinly pre-sliced cabbage, called Cole Slaw Mix. Some add very small amounts of carrots and purple/red cabbage for color. If your grocery store or market does not carry that, you can just thinly slice cabbage into ribbons by hand.

  17. Absolutely wonderful, lots of flavor! Hubby and I are trying Keto and this recipe will be added to our “go-to” sides favorite.

  18. 5 stars
It’s my go to now. I use it all the time as my side for all my work lunches that I bring from home. Best coleslaw I’ve had in my opinion.

  19. 5 stars
This is REALLY GOOD and creamy! I am very picky with coleslaw and I don’t like just any coleslaw but this was surprisingly delicious! I have made it several times! Great job!

  20. Just made this. It was perfect except the apple cider vinegar was really strong. Any suggestions to tone down that flavor: not sure how it would affect the flavor profile to leave it out completely or if I would have to change other things if I changed that ratio. Suggestions?

  21. 5 stars
This turned our perfect. I used monk fruit sweetener and lime juice because that’s what I had on hand.

  22. I tried several dressing recipes for coleslaw and this one is by far the best. The addition of sour cream and cream made this so creamy. I had to add some additional drops of stevia to the swerve because it just wasn’t sweet enough g]for me. Thank you so much.

  23. 5 stars
I made a double batch today for a family get-together. Can’t wait to hear the reaction. Thanks for the recipe!

  24. Hi!
This looks amazing! Do I have to use Dijon mustard? Is there a substitute? It’s the only ingredient I don’t have. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

    1. You can either leave it out or maybe use yellow mustard instead and it should still taste great!

  25. 5 stars
Excellent recipe! I didn’t think I’d find another recipe to match my favorite pre-keto slaw recipe but this is fantasic …. every bit – if not better – than my original recipe. I made it the day before and let it sit so the flavors could meld. AWESOME! Thank you so much = )

Just made this to have some tomorrow for lunch with a burger at work. Accidently put 1t. Dijon but it wasn’t overpowering, nice zing. Also made it for broccoli slaw instead of cole slaw. Had to do a taste test. It’s really, really good! And VERY creamy!

    1. Sounds great! I’ve made broccoli slaw before too, it’s awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.

    1. Hi Jacqui,
