☑️ Storage Instructions
Store leftover salsa in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Press plastic wrap directly onto the salsa to help keep the avocados fresh. I do not recommend freezing it.
🍴 Delicious Ways to Serve Homemade Avocado Salsa
- Serve it with my homemade Keto Tortilla Chips for a crunchy, low-carb snack.
- Spoon it over Blackened Chicken or Cilantro Shrimp Skewers for a fresh topping.
- Use it as a chunky topping for Burrito Bowls.
- Add a scoop to the top of scrambled eggs or Frittatas for a fresh twist.
- It’s perfect with any Tex-Mex dinner like Taco Casseroles or Fajita Skillets.
💡 Tips
- Use ripe but firm avocados so the pieces hold their shape when mixed.
- Quarter your cherry tomatoes instead of dicing larger ones. They hold less water and won’t make the salsa runny.
- Let the garlic, lime juice, and seasonings sit for a few minutes before mixing to mellow the flavor.
- Dice everything the same size so you get a little bit of everything in each bite.
- Use fresh lime juice, not bottled. It makes a huge difference in flavor.
- Stir gently with a spatula or spoon so the avocados stay chunky.
- If making ahead, keep the dressing separate and toss everything together just before serving.
- Add the salt last so it doesn’t draw moisture from the vegetables while you prep.
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Cukes: Add diced cucumber for extra crunch and a refreshing bite.
- Peppers: Swap yellow bell pepper with green if that’s what you’ve got in the fridge. You can also use a serrano instead of jalapeño for a spicier version.
- Cheese: Crumble feta or queso fresco on top for a salty contrast.
- Onion: Toss in chopped green onions for an extra punch of flavor and texture.
- Crunch: Mix in finely chopped radishes for a little crunch and peppery bite.
- Herbs: Stir in chopped fresh basil or parsley if you’re not a cilantro fan.
- Seasoning: Sprinkle with chili powder or smoked paprika to amp up the flavor.
Can I Make This Avocado Salsa Ahead of Time?
You can prep the veggies and dressing separately, but wait to dice and mix in the avocados until just before serving.
Why is My Salsa Watery?
It could be from overripe tomatoes or adding salt too early. Try quartered cherry tomatoes and add the salt right before serving.
What’s the Best Avocado for Salsa?
I prefer Haas avocados that are ripe but not overly soft. They should give slightly when pressed but not feel mushy.
Can I Use a Food Processor for This?
I don't recommend it! This avocado salsa is all about chunky texture. A food processor will turn it into more of a creamy guacamole or puree.
Is This The Same as Guacamole?
Not quite. Guacamole is creamier and mashed. This is more of a chunky salsa that’s bright, fresh, and spoonable.
