Ham Salad is one of those old-fashioned recipes that never goes out of style. It’s creamy, a little tangy, and loaded with smoky ham, crisp celery, and a touch of relish to tie it all together. The best part? It comes together in minutes, making it perfect for easy lunches and quick afternoon snacks.
If you’ve got leftover ham from Easter or Christmas, this is the easiest way to turn it into something completely delicious. I love how you can keep it chunky or blend it a little smoother, depending on how you like it. Serve it with crackers, stuff it into a tomato or avocado, make a sandwich, or just grab a spoon; it’s that good!

🔪 How to Make Keto Ham Salad
Chop the ham in small cubes.
Add the ham in the bowl of your food processor.
Pulse 4-5 times, just until the ham is finely chopped, making sure not to completely puree it. You still want some small chunks.
Add the ham to a large mixing bowl, along with the chopped hard boiled eggs, celery, red onion and relish.
Gently toss to combine. Add in the mayonnaise, dijon mustard and dried dill.
Mix until everything is well combined and it’s ready to serve.
You can serve on your favorite low carb bread or serve with low carb crackers.
☑️ Storage Instructions
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Give it a gentle stir before serving. I do not recommend freezing it because mayonnaise-based salads tend to separate when frozen.
🍴 Tasty Ways to Serve Ham Salad
- Classic Ham Salad Sandwich: Pile it onto slices of this homemade keto bread or dinner rolls (or use your favorite store-bought bread).
- Lettuce Wraps: Spoon it into romaine or butter lettuce for a light, fresh option.
- Ham Salad Dip: Blend a little smoother and serve with Everything Bagel Crackers, celery sticks, or cucumber slices for an easy appetizer.
- Stuffed Avocados: Fill halved avocados with ham salad for a light and refreshing meal.
- Deviled Eggs Twist: Use it as a filling for hard-boiled egg halves.
- Breakfast Bagel: Spread it on toasted Keto Bagels for breakfast on the go.
- Ham Salad Roll Up: Spread it on a Keto Tortilla with a little cream cheese and roll it up for a tasty snack.
- Stuffed Tomatoes: Hollow out fresh tomatoes and fill them with ham salad for a fun, fresh dish.
💡 Tips
- Chop don’t puree: A few pulses in the food processor is all you need to finely chop the ham without turning it into a paste.
- Adjust the texture: If you like it chunkier, you can chop everything by hand instead of using the processor.
- Sweet or dill relish? Both work! Sweet relish adds a little tangy sweetness, while dill gives it a more savory bite.
- Let it chill: Letting it sit in the fridge for an hour helps the flavors meld together even more.
- Taste and adjust: If it’s too thick, add a little more mayonnaise. If it needs more flavor a pinch of salt and pepper can make all the difference.
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Cheesy: Feel free to add a handful of shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese.
- Egg salad hybrid: Mix in extra chopped hard-boiled eggs for a creamy ham and egg salad combo.
- Jalapeños: Swap some of the relish for a few jarred pickled jalapenos or even some of these homemade Pickled Jalapenos.
- Herbs Fresh parsley, chives, or a little extra dried dill can brighten up the flavors.
- Extra crunch: Top with crispy bacon bits or crushed pecans for an extra crunch.
Can I Use Deli Ham Instead of Leftover Ham?
Yes, deli ham works, but it won’t have the same smoky depth of flavor. If you don't have leftover ham, you can find sliced smoked ham in the meat department at most grocery stores.
Why is My Ham Salad Watery?
Too much moisture in the ham or too much mayonnaise can make it runny. Blot the ham with a paper towel before chopping it and add the mayo a little at a time.
Can I Make Ham Salad without Mayonnaise?
Yes! Swap the mayo for Greek yogurt or sour cream for a tangier, lighter version.
What’s the Difference Between Ham Salad and Deviled Ham?
Ham salad is usually chunkier and mixed with crunchy add-ins like celery and onion, while deviled ham is smoother and sometimes spicier.
