🔪 How to Make Air Fryer Asian Shrimp Skewers
Add the Sambal, liquid aminos, sugar-free honey, Sriracha, toasted sesame oil, garlic and ginger in a small mixing bowl.
Whisk to combine.
Add the shrimp to a separate bowl.
Pour the mixture over the shrimp and toss to combine, making sure all the shrimp are covered.
Cover and allow the shrimp to marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes. If you’re using wooden skewers, this is also a good time to submerge your skewers in water to help prevent them from burning.
After 30 minutes, preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes. Add the shrimp to the skewers and save any remaining marinade.
Air fry them @ 400°F for 4 minutes. Brush the remaining marinade over the tops and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes or until cooked through.
☑️ Storage Instructions
Fridge: Store any leftover shrimp skewers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can be enjoyed cold or reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
Freezer: Though best when freshly made, you can freeze these shrimp skewers if needed. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag. They’ll keep well for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the air fryer until warmed through.

💡 Tips for Making Shrimp in the Air Fryer
- Use easy-peel: You'll make things much easier if you buy easy-peel shrimp. They are already split and will slide off with little effort. You can also buy them already peeled and deveined.
- Always preheat the air fryer: Just like with a regular oven, preheating your air fryer helps ensure even cooking.
- Don't skip the marinade: To ensure your shrimp have deep, robust flavor, allow them to marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Avoid overcrowding: For anything to cook properly in an air fryer, you need to make sure to add it in a single layer in the basket or tray.
- Choose the right size shrimp: Keep in mind that shrimp shrink when cooked. If serving them for dinner, you’ll want large or jumbo-sized shrimp.
- Check for doneness: Some air fryers cook faster than others, so keep an eye on the shrimp to avoid overcooking. They cook quickly!
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Liquid aminos: Swap with coconut aminos for a slightly milder, savory taste.
- Sugar-free honey: Swap the honey for sugar-free maple syrup.
- Sriracha: Substitute with a little hot sauce if you can't find sriracha.
- Toasted sesame oil: Regular sesame oil works well if toasted isn’t available.
- Vegetables: Add keto-friendly veggies like bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini to the skewers for extra flavor.
- Sesame seeds: A sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds gives a nice crunch and pairs well with Asian flavors.
- Fresh herbs: Garnish with sliced green onions or cilantro for a fresh pop of color.
- Lime zest or juice: A little lime zest or a squeeze of lime juice over the skewers just before serving brightens the flavors.
- Crushed nuts: Garnish with crushed macadamia nuts or almonds for a subtle crunch that pairs nicely with the shrimp.
Are Asian Shrimp Skewers Keto-Friendly?
Yes! These Air Fryer Asian Shrimp Skewers are Keto-friendly, Shrimp are naturally low carb and we used all sugar-free ingredients in the glaze.
Can I Use Frozen Shrimp?
Absolutely. Just make sure to fully thaw and pat the shrimp dry before marinating to help the flavors stick and avoid excess water in the marinade.
Why Are My Shrimp Sticking to The Air Fryer Basket?
To prevent sticking, lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray before adding the skewers, and leave space between them for even airflow.
How Spicy are These Skewers?
These skewers have a medium heat level due to the sambal and Sriracha. If you prefer less spice, simply reduce or omit the Sriracha.
Why Are My Shrimp Tough?
Shrimp can become tough if overcooked, so keep a close eye on the time. They generally need about 4 minutes per side; any longer and they might lose their tender texture.
What Type of Skewers Should I Use?
Both wooden and metal skewers work well. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 20 minutes before cooking to prevent them from burning in the air fryer.
