💡 Tips for Making Salmon Burgers
- Choose fresh salmon: Opt for a high-quality, fresh salmon filet for the best flavor and texture. Trust me, this choice really sets your burgers apart from canned salmon!
- Pat dry: Don't forget to pat your salmon dry after taking off the skin. This helps keep your burgers nice and sturdy, preventing any unwanted moisture from sneaking in.
- Mixing the patties: Blending the salmon helps to form the patties but you don’t want then to be mushy. Pulse just until everything comes together well.
- Chill the patties: After you shape the patties, pop them in the fridge for at least an hour. This helps them firm up, so they hold together beautifully while cooking.
- Cooking temperature: Keep your skillet on medium heat while frying the patties. This ensures they cook through without burning on the outside. Just a few minutes on each side will give you that perfect golden crust.
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Salmon: Not a fan of salmon? No worries. Substitute it with other fish like trout or tilapia for a different flavor.
- Sauce: If you prefer milder flavors, you can swap the Boom Boom sauce for this homemade Tartar Sauce. You can also swap the boom boom sauce for this Bang Bang Sauce.
- Cheese: Top your burgers with a slice of pepper jack or some feta cheese for extra creaminess.
- Veggies: Include a little finely shredded carrots or cabbage in the burger mixture for added crunch and nutrition.
- Toppings: Top your burgers with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, avocado slices, or jalapeños for added texture and flavor.
- Buns: Use lettuce wraps or this Cloud Bread for other low-carb options instead of traditional buns.
Are Salmon Burgers Healthy for You?
I can't speak for all salmon burgers, because some add crackers as a filler and other ingredients, but these are a healthy choice. As the star of the show, the salmon brings a ton of nutrients to the table. You’re getting at least half your daily protein with each serving, plus over 20 percent of your daily calcium and B vitamins. Their not just tasty...they make a wholesome, nutrient-packed meal too!
Can I Make the Salmon Burgers Ahead of Time?
Yes, you can! Prepare the patties and refrigerate them for up to 4 hours before cooking. You can also freeze the uncooked patties. Just let them thaw in the fridge before frying.
How Do I Keep the Salmon Burgers from Falling Apart?
Chilling the patties in the fridge for at least an hour before cooking helps them firm up. Also, make sure to pat the salmon dry before mixing to prevent excess moisture.
Can I Cook the Burgers in an Air Fryer Instead of a Skillet?
Absolutely! Cook the patties in an air fryer at 375°F for about 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
How Do I Know the Salmon Burgers are Fully Cooked?
The burgers should have a golden crust on the outside and reach an internal temperature of 145°F. They’ll be firm to the touch but still moist inside.
Can I Freeze the Cooked Salmon Burgers?
Yes! Once they’re fully cooked, let them cool and store in an airtight container or freezer bag. They’ll keep for up to 3 months in the freezer. Just reheat in a skillet or microwave when you're ready to eat.
