❤️ Why You'll Love This Blueberry Sauce Recipe
- Fresh juicy blueberries
- Uses just a handful of healthy ingredients
- No sugar added
- Use as a topping on waffles, pancakes, cheesecake and much more
This Keto Blueberry Sauce is a versatile sauce loaded with vibrant blueberry flavor. It’s incredibly simple to make, coming together in just 10 minutes with only a few basic ingredients. The sauce thickens beautifully as it cooks, creating a thick and rich texture that can be kept chunky or blended for a smoother sauce.
It works wonderfully as a topping for pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, or chaffles (find the classic chaffle recipe in the notes below). This sauce freezes and thaws perfectly, making it easy to have on hand for whenever you want to add a burst of fruity flavor to your Keto desserts.
This recipe is similar to my popular Raspberry Sauce. Once you see how easy these fruit sauces are to make, you'll never be tempted with the store-bought versions again.

🔪 How to Make Sugar-Free Blueberry Sauce
Add the blueberries, sweetener, lemon juice and water to a saucepan, then mix until well combined.
Simmer over medium/low heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring often.
You'll see the berries start to break down and the sauce will thicken as it continues to cook.
Allow to cool before serving.
If you prefer a smooth sauce, you can blend it in a food processor, until you get your desired consistency.
Serve over your favorite foods, see serving ideas below!
☑️ Storage Instructions
Allow the blueberry sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
For longer storage, you can freeze the sauce in a freezer-safe container for up to three months. When ready to use, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or gently reheat it on the stovetop.
🍴 Ways to Serve Blueberry Sauce
Of course this sauce is incredible as topping for pancakes and waffles. Here are some other delicious ways to serve it:
- Yogurt: Drizzle over Greek yogurt for a quick and tasty breakfast or snack.
- Cheesecake: Swirl into or top your favorite Keto cheesecake for a fruity twist.
- Smoothies: Blend into keto smoothies for a burst of blueberry goodness.
- Scones or muffins: Serve over keto scones or blueberry muffins for a sweet topping.
- Ice cream: Top vanilla or keto-friendly ice cream and sorbet for a refreshing dessert.
- Biscuits: You can spread some over drop biscuits for an afternoon treat with a hot cup of tea.
- Savory dishes: Glaze over grilled meats like chicken or pork for a sweet and tangy contrast.
💡 Tips for Making Blueberry Sauce
- Maintain a gentle simmer rather than a rapid boil to prevent the sauce from burning and to allow flavors to meld without over-reducing.
- Look for small bubbles around the edges of the pan as a sign that the sauce is cooking properly. Large bubbles can indicate it’s cooking too fast.
- Stir frequently with a wooden spoon, which can help prevent the sauce from sticking and make it easier to gauge its consistency.
- To check if it’s the right thickness, dip a spoon into the sauce and run your finger across the back. If the line holds, the sauce is ready.
- A heavy-bottomed pan helps distribute heat evenly, reducing the risk of scorching and allowing for a more controlled cooking process.
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Lemon juice: Swap fresh lemon juice with lime juice for a different tangy flavor.
- Liquid: Use unsweetened almond milk or coconut water instead of water for a different twist.
- Berries: Substitute with other low-carb berries such as raspberries or blackberries.
- Extracts: Stir in a drop of vanilla or almond extract for a unique twist.
- Herbs: Add fresh herbs like mint or basil for a refreshing pop of flavor.
- Citrus zest: Mix in some lemon or lime zest for additional citrusy brightness.
- Chia seeds: Stir in a tablespoon of chia seeds to thicken the sauce and add a bit of texture.
Can I Use Frozen Blueberries Instead?
Using fresh blueberries is certainly best, but if you can only find them frozen, by all means use them. Just be sure to thaw them first, and you can add them into the pan, juice and all.
How Can I Naturally Thicken Blueberry Sauce?
As I mentioned earlier, one of the best things about this sauce besides the amazing flavor, is that you don't need to use any special ingredients to thicken it up.
I try to only using thickeners like Xanthan Gum when I really have to. The acidity in the lemon juice acts as a natural thickener, but it also brightens up the flavor a bit.
This recipe uses Swerve Confectioners and works really well because it doesn't crystalize as the sauce cools. Alternatively, you can use powdered allulose or powdered monk fruit/erythritol blend instead.
What's the Best Way to Adjust the Texture?
If you'd like it to be a little chunkier and use it as a low carb blueberry topping for pancakes or waffles, you can leave the sauce as is and it will be thick enough, and still give you those nice chunks.
If you'd like it to be smooth, you can either use an immersion blender or puree in your Food Processor, until you get a good drizzling consistency.
How Do I Make a Basic Chaffle?
I use the Dash mini waffle maker to make my Chaffles and it works so well, plus you can't beat the price! All you do is plug it in, and once it heats up, spray both waffle plates with nonstick spray or brush with coconut oil, then mix together 1 whole egg and ½ cup of shredded cheese (I prefer using mozzarella because it's mild in flavor).
Then pour ½ of the mixture on the bottom plate and close the lid. Now depending on how firm or crispy you like them, you'll want to cook them anywhere from 3-6 minutes each.
Cook the second one and top with the blueberry topping and you're good to go! I also use this basic Chaffle recipe as a low carb bread replacement for sandwiches or BLT's and it works so well.
Are Blueberries Keto?
They sure are, but you'll want to consume them in small amounts. Blueberries are so healthy and contain Vitamin C, K1, Fiber and Manganese. Read more about the health benefits of blueberries in this article!
How Many Carbs in Blueberries?
There are 17 net carbs in one cup of blueberries. Now that might sound like a lot, but you'll never eat the entire recipe in one sitting!
This this Low Carb blueberry sauce recipe uses 1 cup, which is split amongst 12 servings. So the impact is minimal and definitely worth the splurge!

This is delicious! I used a little bit more blueberries - so I did the following: One pint of blueberries, 1/3 c. Swerve confectioners, 1 T lemon juice and 1/4 c + 3 T water. I cooked it 15 minutes, and served it with LC cheesecake tonight.
