If you like salmon and crab cakes, you are going to love these!  I take a traditional crab cake, substitute with fresh salmon and serve with spicy bang bang sauce.

To give them even more flavor, I also add some of the sauce into the salmon cake mix, along with red bell pepper and scallions.

These are unbelievably easy to make and taste like you ordered them at a restaurant! They are of course, Low Carb and Keto friendly, and are loaded with healthy fats!

What's in Bang Bang Salmon Cakes

    • Salmon filet
    • Super fine almond flour
    • Red bell pepper
    • Scallions
    • Egg
    • Grass-fed butter
    • Keto friendly oil of your choice, for frying
    • Homemade Bang Bang Sauce

*Exact measurements are listed in the recipe card below.

How to Make Bang Bang Keto Salmon Patties

    Preheat oven to 425F.

Place the salmon on a baking rack over a baking sheet and brush with the Keto friendly oil like olive oil or avocado oil. Add salt and pepper over the top and bake for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through.

Set aside the cooked filets and allow them to cool slightly.

Once they have cooled slightly, using a fork, gently flake the salmon apart and discard the skin.

Add the salmon to a large mixing bowl along with the red pepper, egg, almond flour, scallions and 2 tablespoons of Bang Bang Sauce.

Toss all the ingredients just until combined. Don't over mix it.

Using a cookie scoop, form the cakes about 2-3" in diameter and place on a plate lined with parchment paper.  I was able to get 22 patties out of this batch.  Alternatively, you can make them larger using an ice cream scoop, and extend the cooking time a bit.

Heat a large non-stick skillet to medium and add the oil and butter.

Fry the salmon cakes for 3-4 minutes on each side or until slightly golden.

Allow to drain on paper towels before serving.

Serve with a drizzle of the bang bang sauce over the top and enjoy!

Store leftovers in the fridge for 1-2 days.

Note: You can make this with canned salmon, but I highly recommend using fresh, if you're able to.

Tips for the Best Keto Salmon Patties

Though this recipe is incredibly east to make, here are a few tips and variations you may find helpful:

How do I Keep Salmon Cakes from Falling Apart?

Though this is gluten-free salmon recipe, you'll use almond flour and egg combined to work as a binder. If you find that the cakes seem a little looser than you'd prefer, just add a little more almond flour and place them in the fridge. By allowing them to sit a little while, the moisture is absorbed into the flour which will help to firm the up.

Another tips for keeping them together is to be sure and let them cook well on one side before flipping them. These salmon patties are tender so allowing them to get a slight crust before flipping them will help.

Can I use Another Sauce with these Salmon Cakes?

Bang bang sauce has such amazing flavor, but if you're wanting a super mild sauce, you can certainly use these homemade Keto Thousand Island Dressing in it's place.

You can serve them homemade Tartar Sauce or the Creamy Dill Sauce that's in this baked salmon recipe instead.

Can I Bake Keto Salmon Cakes?

In order to get that crispy crust, I truly recommend shallow pan frying as with this recipe. But if you want to make them, you certainly can.

To bake them, place the salmon cakes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spray the paper with a little non stick cooking spray.

Bake the patties for 20 minutes on 375F, flipping them after about 10 minutes.

Can I Freeze Bang Bang Salmon Cakes?

You sure can! Store leftovers in the freezer for up a coupe of months. You'll want to thaw them completely before you reheat. To reheat them, just place the thawed patties on a sheet pan and reheat on 375F just until heated through.

Is Salmon Keto? Are Salmon Patties Healthy?

Is it ever! Keto salmon recipes are some of the most nutritious recipes you can make. Honestly, salmon is perfect for any diet because not only is it an excellent source for omega-3 fatty acids, it's also an excellent source for protein and potassium.

What Do I Serve with Bang Bang Keto Salmon Cakes?

This recipe has a bit of a kick from the sauce but it pairs really well with a number of Keto side dishes. Here are some excellent choices to consider:

    • Roasted Balsamic Brussels Sprouts with Prosciutto
    • Jalapeño Popper Cauliflower "Mac" and Cheese
    • Bacon Wrapped Green Beans
    • Easy Creamed Spinach
    • Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Mashed Cauliflower
    • Easy Broccoli Salad with Bacon

This is so much better with pork rinds, than almond flour. So much more flavor. Also, if you want to add flavor fry up in bacon grease. Needs some salt and pepper too. These are outstanding with the side of avocado!

It would have to be a meaty type of fish like the salmon used in this recipe. You could possibly try tuna. If you are looking for some other way to enjoy the Bang Bang sauce, I do have a other Bang Bang recipes, including Bang Bang Shrimp on my site.

Can these be frozen before frying? Then fried from frozen later?

Can you make this with coconut flour? Or maybe ground pork rinds?

I know it's probably not as good but can you use canned salmon? Salmon where I live is terribly expensive. These salmon cakes look amazing!!!!

I have never used canned salmon before, so I am not sure. The recipe calls for one pound of fresh so I would think one pound of canned.

Since I've not tried baking them myself, I really can't say for sure how they'll turn out. If you do bake them, maybe try it with just one on a parchment lined baking sheet and see how it does. I'd also flip it half way through cooking and cook it at about 375F-400F.

I’ve made this recipe twice now because it is so delicious, but I’m having trouble keeping the patties in tact. They are crumbling in the frying pan. What could be wrong?

I'm not sure why, unless you are cooking them at too low of a temperature or trying to flip them too early. Mine stayed together perfectly, I was even able to pick them up with my fingers and dip in the bang bang sauce. They never fell apart on me.

You said your recipe got approximately 22 cakes, and you said the recipe is 5 servings, does that mean there are approximately 4 cakes per serving?

        Hi Jane,
Yes, approximately 4-5 salmon cakes per serving, depending on the size that you make them.
