🍴 What to Serve with Biscuits and Gravy

  • Avocado slices: Fresh, creamy, and always a good call with savory sausage gravy.

💡 Tips

  • Use super fine almond flour, not almond meal, to keep the biscuits soft and tender.
  • Don’t overmix the biscuit batter once the wet and dry ingredients are combined.
  • Let the mascarpone soften at room temp so it melts easily into the gravy.
  • Adjust seasoning at the end. Salt levels vary with different sausage brands.
  • Let the biscuits rest for 5 minutes after baking to finish setting inside.
  • Line your muffin tin with silicone liners or parchment cups to prevent sticking.

🔄 Substitutions and Additions

  • Bacon gravy: Replace half the sausage with chopped bacon for a smoky twist.
  • Spice: Add a pinch of crushed red pepper or cayenne to the sausage for a little heat.
  • Cream cheese: Swap mascarpone for cream cheese if you don’t have any on hand.
  • Herbs: Try sage, chives or thyme in the biscuit dough for a herby twist.

Why Did My Gravy Turn Out Too Thin?

It may need more time to simmer. Keep it on medium heat and stir often until it thickens.

Can I Reheat This Gravy in The Microwave?

Yes, but heat the gravy in short intervals and stir in between so it doesn’t separate.

What Thickens Keto Gravy?

This sausage gravy recipe uses mascarpone cheese as a natural thickener, because it’s a rich and creamy cheese that melts beautifully when melted.

Also, using a large frying pan to make the gravy helps it thicken up as well. If you choose to use a smaller pan, you’ll need to extend the cooking time longer.

Can I Freeze Keto Sausage Gravy?

This gravy is so quick and easy that it’s best served fresh. You can freeze it, but because it’s mostly dairy, you’ll have to whisk it really well as it reheats.

Because of the moisture content, be sure to freeze in an air tight container to ensure optimal freshness.

Is Almond Flour Keto?

Almond flour is one of if not the best gluten-free, grain-free alternatives to regular flour making it perfect for Keto. For an entire cup of almond flour, there are 8 grams of net carbs.

Almond flour is made by grinding blanched, skinned almonds into a fine powder. If you’d like to know more about gluten free and Keto baking ingredients, “Keto Baking Made Easy” is a great article you may find useful.

This was surprisingly good. Has a few more carbs than I’m suppose to have but I don’t care. It was well worth it.

    1. I did not run separate values, so you’ll have to enter the ingredients in your macro tracker to get the correct nutritional value. Because ingredients can vary, it’s always a good idea to calculate your own macros.

Both the biscuits and the gravy were amazing! The biscuits were light. I did them in my iron skillet do they had a crunchy outside. My daughter is gluten intolerant, so she especially loved the gravy. Thanks!

    1. I love the cast iron skillet idea! I am so glad you and your daughter enjoyed them! I have to admit, the gravy is my favorite too!

  3. How much salt is needed for the biscuits? I noticed the directions say to mix it with the dry ingredients, but there is no measurement listed. Thanks so much!

I like more gravy and use chicken stock added and a little xantham gum. Sounds weird but is delicious. I also freeze it in small portions for work days.

  5. Hello I have two questions for you. Why the xatham gum and what can I use in place of it? And can I use cream cheese instead of mascarpone cheese?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Brenda,
The xanthan gum is a thickener, you can use Glucomannan instead if you like. You can also substitute cream cheese for the mascarpone as well. It will change the flavor a little, but will still be good 🙂 I hope that helps!

It was very good. I used arrowroot to thicken up the gravy. I think I used about 2 1/2 teaspoons until I got it to the thickness I liked. Thank you for making this recipe.

Being a country girl from the south, biscuits & gravy are a given! However, being on keto/low carb is impossible with the recipe we grew up on, but this is as close as it could possibly get!
    Easy, and so good!

    1. Hi Ruth,
Nice to hear that you like the biscuits & gravy. Being from the South, that’s definitely a compliment! Thanks for stopping by to let me know 🙂
