❤️ Why You'll Love This Buffalo Wings Recipe
- Crispy chicken skins
- Seasoned and cooked in the air fryer
- Tossed in an easy homemade buffalo sauce
- Serve with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks
- Easy to make, with super easy cleanup
Air frying is honestly the easiest way to make chicken wings. There's no wasted oil and no oil splattering everywhere, causing a nightmare cleanup! The simple key to getting these wings to crisp up is to make sure they are completely dry before they go in the air fryer.
They will stay moist and juicy inside but have a nice crispy skin, just like you want with perfect wings. Plus, they're not just for appetizers; pair them with a simple side, and they become a flavorful and filling option for lunch or dinner. Whether you're hosting a party or simply craving a tasty meal, these wings will definitely hit the spot.
These wings are so versatile, you could also make them with the seasonings of your choice and leave off the buffalo sauce if you'd like. Once they are ready, I toss them in my Homemade Buffalo Wing Sauce and serve with celery sticks and my homemade Blue Cheese Dressing on the side!

🔪 How to Make Keto Buffalo Wings
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
Cut each chicken wing into 3 separate pieces, discarding the wing tips and keeping only the drumettes and flats.
Add the pieces into a mixing bowl, then sprinkle the baking powder and garlic salt over the tops.
Toss to combine, making sure each wing is well coated. Place the wings in your preheated air fryer basket, that's been sprayed with olive oil.
Air fry @ 400°F for 18-20 minutes or until almost completely cooked through. I recommend using a meat thermometer to make sure they reach at least 165°F.
Pour the cooked wings into a mixing bowl, then pour the buffalo wing sauce over the top.
Toss them in the wing sauce, then place them back into the air fryer basket.
Air fry for another 2-3 minutes.
Remove and serve with (optional) blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.
You are welcome to skip the last step if you'd like. I like cooking them for a few extra minutes to allow the buffalo wing sauce to bake into the skin.
💡 Tips for the Best Keto Buffalo Wings
- Preheat your air fryer: Preheating the air fryer allows the wings to start cooking immediately at the right temperature.
- Pat the wings dry: Before seasoning, make sure to pat your wings dry with paper towels. This helps the baking powder adhere better and ensures crispier wings.
- Use fresh chicken wings: Fresh wings typically have better texture and flavor. If you use frozen wings, make sure they are fully thawed and patted dry before seasoning.
- Even spacing: Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. This allows hot air to circulate evenly around each wing, ensuring they’ll get crispy all over.
- Flip them: For crispiness on all sides, flip the wings halfway through the air frying time.
- Rest them: After the final air fry, let the wings rest for a couple of minutes. This helps the sauce to set and makes them easier to handle.
☑️ Storage Instructions
Store leftovers for up to a few days in the fridge. You can easily reheat these in your air fryer or oven, but I recommend that if you are intentionally making extra to have leftovers for later, I'd hold off on tossing them in the buffalo wing sauce if you can.
Then, when you go to reheat them, they can crisp back up nicely, as they were when you first made them. Toss them in the sauce and serve.
🍴 What Low Carb Sides to Serve with Wings
These buffalo wings are great as a low carb appetizer, but you can also make them your main protein for dinner and serve them with any number of sides, including:
- Cauliflower Potato Salad
- Easy Coleslaw
- Cheesy Roasted Cauliflower
- Broccoli Salad with Bacon
- Cauliflower Mac and Cheese
- Honey Roasted Brussels Sprouts
🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- You can omit the cayenne pepper to make a milder sauce. It takes about 2 minutes to make, and it's done! Easy peasy!
- For the dipping sauce, I go traditional with a Blue Cheese Dressing, that I also make myself. It has a few more ingredients than my wing sauce, but it's incredibly easy to make and tastes delicious!
- And You can skip the sauces all together and just season the wings before you bake them. For example, you can use my Cajun Seasoning and make Cajun wings! You can dip them in Homemade Ranch Dressing (or even use store bought) to cool them down a bit.
Are Buffalo Chicken Wings Keto?
They certainly are! In fact, dark meat chicken with the skins on is preferred to a boneless, skinless chicken breasts because of the healthy fat content! Don't get me wrong, I use chicken breasts in many of my recipes, but it doesn't have as much fat, which makes them perfect for casseroles that have added sauces and other sources of healthy fat.
If you make your own buffalo wing sauce to toss them in, you can make sure that you're not missing any hidden carbs that might come in some bottled sauces. So if you choose to purchase a pre-made wing sauce, just be sure to check the ingredients and nutrition label!
Can You Bake Keto Chicken Wings in a Regular Oven?
Definitely! But I recommend baking them on a baking sheet that has a wire rack. This will help allow air to circulate through the wings so they can crisp up. Bake them @ 400F for about 40-45 minutes and flip them half way through cooking.
What Temp Should Air Fryer Wings Be?
Use a meat thermometer to ensure the wings reach an internal temperature of at least 165°F. If they are still undercooked, air fry them for a few more minutes, checking periodically.
Why Are My Wings Not Crispy?
Ensure the wings are patted dry before seasoning and air frying. Overcrowding the air fryer basket can also prevent the wings from getting crispy. Cook in batches if necessary.
