🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- If you don't have mayonnaise, you can either make your own or substitute with plain Greek yogurt instead.
- If you can't find traditional Sambal, you can use Sambal with garlic instead. If you cannot find either, you can use a sugar-free sweet Thai chili paste and just omit the sweetener in this recipe.
- Sriracha offers a little spicy kick, and it's a key ingredient. So if you don't like things too spicy, add a little more mayonnaise to tame the heat a bit, without losing any of the flavor.
- Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice and zest to brighten up the flavors.
- If you like garlic (and who doesn't!?), try adding a small clove of freshly grated garlic in the sauce for an Asian spin on a spicy aioli.
- Many versions of Bang Bang Sauce use honey, so if you like that flavor and texture, you can omit the monk fruit/allulose and substitute with sugar-free honey instead.
🍴 What to Serve Bang Bang Sauce With
This quick and easy Keto sauce is delicious on just about everything. Once you have the ingredients on hand, you can whip up a batch in minutes. Here are some all time favorite ideas you could try:
- Something that I've done quite often is add some heavy cream, thinned out with a little water to turn this Bang Bang sauce into a salad dressing. It's absolutely delicious!
- Try it drizzled over you morning omelet. The sauce goes so well with eggs and cheese working perfectly to wake up the same ole, same ole omelet flavors.
- I love charred/sautéed greens! Kale, spinach even collard greens will take on a whole new life when you spoon a little right over the top before serving them. It is especially delicious when served over this Grilled Broccolini!
- If you enjoy a little kick to your dipping sauces, try this Bang Bang sauce recipe on the side of these Keto Chicken Tenders.
- Bang Bang Sauce can double as a dipping sauce when served with Fried Avocado Fries or Eggplant Fries.
Other dishes that I've made using this flavorful sauce is Bang Bang Shrimp, Spicy Shrimp Lettuce Wraps, Bang Bang Salmon Cakes, Bang Bang Cauliflower and even this Bang Bang Coleslaw!

sambal garlic or just plain sambal? is it chilli paste?
Keto Cooking Christian
You can use either. Yes, sambal is a type of chili paste.

Where do I get Sambal?
Keto Cooking Christian
Sambal is a spicy Asian chili paste you'll find at most major grocery stores where other Asian products are sold. You can also get it online by clicking the link in the recipe.

If you like a spicy sauce with just a kick this is definitely worth trying and I will continue making it. I made it for my salmon cakes and will try with other foods as well.
Keto Cooking Christian
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This sauce goes with so many different things but I love it on salmon cakes best too.
Liz
Is there anything you can substitute for the Sriracha?
Keto Cooking Christian
Not sure honestly, the Sriracha is a key ingredient in this sauce so I've never tried subbing it.

When I clicked on the link it said chili paste not garlic is that correct
Keto Cooking Christian
You can use either Sambal or Sambal garlic, either will work
Allison
I’m curious about this recipe and want to make sure I’m doing it right. The first half of the page the recipe reads sambal, garlic. But the actual recipe at the bottom doesn’t mention garlic. Do I add garlic, or not? Thanks
Keto Cooking Christian
You're not adding garlic, but rather Sambal garlic. Alternatively, you can use plan Sambal, but I recommend using their garlic version. Sorry for the confusion, I've corrected the recipe card to reflect this.

I did try this sauce, making it less spicy and it was so good. Do you think it would be good on asparagus?
Keto Cooking Christian
Honestly, I've never tried it so I can't say for sure. I love this sauce on so many things, but I imagine it would be great on some veggies. Definitely worth trying!

If you are sensitive to really spicy food - I usually use mild salsa- will the regular recipe being too hot ?
Keto Cooking Christian
It's not super spicy, but it does have a kick to it. I would say more comparable to a medium salsa. I would start by mixing in half of the Sambal and half of the Sriracha, taste it and see how you like it. If it's too hot, add more mayo. The sauce has a wonderful flavor, so it doesn't have to be super spicy to enjoy 🙂 I hope that helps!
