Is Shrimp OK for Keto? How Many Carbs in Shrimp?
Shrimp are great for Keto! One of the main reasons, other than having minimal carbs, is you can cook them so many different ways. This helps to keep Keto interesting by having different recipes in your meal rotation.
For a four-ounce serving there is less than 1 gram of carbs. In addition to being low in carbs, according to this article on Healthline, "Shrimp is very nutritious. It is fairly low in calories and provides a high amount of protein and healthy fats, in addition to a variety of vitamins and minerals."
What Does Blackening Seasoning Taste Like? What Goes with Blackened Shrimp?
The sugar free homemade blackened seasoning in this recipe has the perfect balance of spice with other herbs. It gives whatever dish you are preparing a tremendous amount of flavor without an overpowering amount of spiciness.
Because it is so flavorful, you may find side dishes that are milder in flavor a good companion. For low carb options, a simple side of seasoned cauliflower rice, green beans almondine or creamed spinach are great choices. I even love to serve them with a cool and creamy cucumber salad. But honestly, they are so versatile, you can serve with just about any side dish you prefer.
Can You Put Frozen Shrimp in an Air Fryer? How Long and What Temp to Air Fry Frozen Shrimp?
The simple answer is yes. But I have to tell you, I find that seasonings stick to thawed shrimp better and they seem to be more tender when they're thawed first.
But we have all forgotten to thaw out what we are cooking the night before. If that's the case, you can cook frozen shrimp in the air fryer, on 400 degrees, between 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
Tips For Buying Shrimp
White shrimp: I love shrimp and have experimented with just about all types. From pink to black tiger and white. White shrimp, with firm flesh, just have a better flavor and taste the sweetest.
Avoid defrosted: Don't confuse defrosted with "never frozen". Shrimp straight off the boat are always the best bet. But unless you live close to the shore and have that type of access, frozen is you next best option. The reason why, shrimp begin to go bad once they are thawed from a frozen state fairly quickly. And since you can never be really sure how long they have been behind the glass counter at the grocery store, you're better off thawing them yourself.
Look for IQF on the package: This is an indicator that the shrimp were individually quick frozen on a conveyor belt, usually while the boats were still at sea.
Check the label: The only ingredient that should be listed on your package of shrimp is " shrimp." Some places will add preservatives to shrimp and in my experience, it leaves a very unpleasant taste on the shrimp.
Wild when possible: Shrimp that are caught naturally are sweeter and have a firmer texture than most farm raised shrimp. If you can find wild shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, they are minimally processed and are seldom mushy when cooked and always a good choice.
