This dressing is so easy to make and only takes a few minutes to mix up. I use one whole cup of blue cheese in this dressing, giving it a rich and classic blue cheese dressing flavor and even leave some crumbles in for a traditional chunky texture.

While there are so many great dressings on the market that are Keto friendly and low carb, with a handful of ingredients, you can make your own! It’s so easy to make yourself, there’s really no need to purchase it in the store.

☑️ Storage Instructions for Low Carb Blue Cheese Dressing

Store blue cheese dressing in an airtight jar for up to a week in the fridge.

💡 Tips

  • If you don’t have a food processor, you can just whisk the ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
  • I do not recommend freezing leftover blue cheese dressing, the texture will become unpleasant and will likely not be able to be salvaged.

🍴 Ways to Use Blue Cheese Dressing

While blue cheese dressing is certainly intended to be used as a salad dressing, there are many other ways to use this flavorful condiment. Here are some of my favorite ideas:

🔄 Substitutions and Additions

  • If you don’t have sour cream, you can use Greek yogurt instead.
  • Garlic powder can be substituted for the fresh garlic, use about 1 teaspoon.
  • If you don’t have white wine vinegar, you can use apple cider vinegar.
  • Gorgonzola can be used instead of blue cheese crumbles.
  • If you don’t have heavy cream, you can use some unsweetened almond milk instead.

Is Blue Cheese Dressing Just Ranch with Blue Cheese?

Actually no, most of the ingredients in this blue cheese dressing differ greatly from the ingredients in ranch dressing, with the except of the creamy elements. The seasonings are completely different, resulting in two very different dressings all together.

Why Does My Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing Get Watery?

This dressing is meant to be thick and fairly chunky, with the addition of blue cheese crumbles. Mayonnaise and sour cream help to further thicken the dressing, and the only ingredients that are on the thinner side, are the white wine vinegar and lemon juice. Using too much of either can contribute to a watery dressing.

Is Blue Cheese OK on Keto Diet?

Absolutely, blue cheese on it’s own or even in a dressing are perfectly fine for Keto!

Is Store Bought Blue Cheese Dressing Keto?

While many store bought dressings are ok for Keto, some still contain ingredients that aren’t ideal for a Keto diet, like soybean oil, canola oil, corn starch, maltodextrin and even sugar.

How Many Carbs Are in Blue Cheese Salad Dressing?

This homemade Keto Blue Cheese Dressing has only 2 carbs per serving, which isn’t too shabby!

Is Ranch or Blue Cheese Dressing Better for Keto?

Since both dressings, in their homemade Keto friendly versions, contain no sugar and very few carbs, both are perfectly acceptable to enjoy on a Keto diet. Even most store bought versions are for the most part, ok for Keto.

RECIPE VIDEO

Ingredients

  • 1 cup blue cheese crumbles, divided
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 garlic clove, roughly chopped
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Put all the ingredients except for the 1/3 cup of the blue cheese, in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until well combined.  Mix in the remaining 1/3 cup of the blue cheese, just until combined.  That's it!
  • Serve with an iceberg wedge or other salad of your choice.

Recipe Notes

If you don’t have a food processor, you can just whisk the ingredients together in a mixing bowl.  I would recommend grating the garlic with a microplane, so you don’t have chunks of raw garlic in your dressing.

Great recipe, Miss Julianne. Easy, tasty, definitely keto. (I leave out the Worcestershire because I’m vegetarian, but it’s still a great dressing!) Thanks so much!

    1. I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Love that you made it work for your vegetarian lifestyle, leaving out the Worcestershire is a smart swap. Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to share your feedback!

My husband loves this recipe!!. I make it every week. He requested that I use Avocado oil-based mayo for health but he loves it just as much as using Dukes mayo.

    1. I’m so glad he enjoys it. I usually make my own mayo, with the recipe link I included, but it is definitely versatile enough to use your favorite brand.

  3. First time ever making my own blue cheese dressing. I was apprehensive! I followed the recipe exact except for the white wine vinegar which I was out of. I usecd apple cider vinegar in place of it. This recipe is amazing!!! Very good!

This is by far the very best homemade blue cheese dressing I’ve ever made! I made this and followed the recipe exactly. I also made sure that I purchased a good-quality blue cheese from our local cheese store, a blue Stilton. I’ve tried various recipes in the past and am always disappointed, which leads me to buy store-bought dressing. I typically like to stear clear of those, but what choice did I have? Now I can made a homemade dressing and I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing!

I made this exactly as directed and my family and I absolutely love this!! It is the best blue cheese dressing I have ever had!! I used this for our low carb chicken wings. Delicious!! Thank you!!

  6. I want to try this, but I’m a little confused. What do you do with the last 1/3 cup of blue cheese? Should the recipe say 1/2 cup and 1.2 cup? Also, I can’t find a serving size. 🙁

    1. The last bit of blue cheese is added into the food processor with just a quick pulse. I do it this way, because I like the dressing to be a little chunky. The video shows this as well. Hope you give it a try!

  7. 5 stars
Loved this much better than store bought and I can control the quality of the ingredients, specifically I substituted Gorgonzola for Blue Cheese simply because that was what I had on hand

  8. Can I freeze some in small batches? I doubled the recipe because I was making this for a buffalo chicken dish – times five -for my lunches this week. Should have read the serving size – oy!

    1. Glad you liked it! Should keep for 3-5 days, but I’ve kept mine just past a week and it was still great!

  9. Hi, Thanks for the yummy looking dressing! The Nutritional Facts are missing the serving size I think. What is one serving please?

    1. Hi Elle,
There are 12 servings for each batch of the dressing and the nutrition info is in the recipe card, towards the bottom of the page. One serving is just over 2 tablespoons. I hope that helps!

Super delish! Made a quick dinner of salad topped with buffalo chicken tenders. This dressing was the perfect accompaniment. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Michelle,
So nice to hear you liked the dressing! Thanks for stopping by to let me know 🙂
